Abstract

Organizations must obtain insights into often fragmented and isolated data assets and eliminate data silos to properly leverage data as a strategic resource. Data catalogs are an increasingly preferred approach for achieving these objectives. Despite the recognized importance of data catalogs in reality, there is a lack of research about the design of corporate data catalogues. Current market solutions must be customized to address specific organizational needs. This article outlines a collection of operational requirements for corporate data catalogs based on thorough literature study. The criteria may be employed to define and guide more comprehensive study on data catalogs, as well as for the selection and customization of practical solutions.
